Desmond leads a privileged life, heir to the throne and schooled in greed and treachery by his father until the peasant uprising. After his father's death, Desmond flees to the surrounding wilderness vowing revenge. From there, he begins tormenting the populace in an unceasing campaign to draw Alec into battle.
Rising to the bait, Alec pursues Desmond but is unable to bring him down. After many years, King Alec and his men plan a final assault on Desmond and the two men come face to face at last. Desmond appears first as a pompous young prince, then as an angry warrior bent on revenge and finally as a mocking reminder that good may not always triumph over evil. |
