![]() Hans Holbein the Younger 1541 |
Marget is married to Gerard, an earnest man who strives hard to provide for his family in an uncertain world. But when Marget catches the eye of King Dereck, his desire results in her being able to ensure her security in a way that her husband never could. After Dereck's plot results in her husband's death, Marget agrees to be Dereck's wife over the objections of her daughter, Joanna. When Alec becomes king, Marget again barters for a chance to remain in court - she offers Joanna's hand to any willing knight. Though mother and daughter often do not see eye to eye, when Joanna finds herself falling in love, Marget is still the one she confides in. Marget appears first as a married lady of court, then widow, then Queen, then mother of the new Queen. |
